70% has been completed of the new HSC for Shannah -Masirah route (3) - Wednesday, 11 September 2013

Statistics provided by the National Ferries Company (NFC) showed that passenger volumes reached 20,797 during the first eight months of this year, an increase of 6 per cent compared with the same period last year. Of these, passenger who travelled via the Muscat-Khasab route accounted for 73 per cent of the total number of passengers followed by Shinas-Khasab route (10 per cent) and Khasab-Lima (17 per cent).

The NFC statistics showed that the first quarter of this year saw the most number of passenger traffic accounting for 47 per cent of the total number of passengers. Also as many as 3,460 vehicles were ferried during the same period, an increase of 15 per cent as compared with the same period last year. Meanwhile, NFC said that 70 per cent of the work to build two ferries for the Shannah-Masirah route, has been completed, according to Mehdi Al Abduwani, the CEO of National Ferries Company.
