For the second time .. "Mwasalat" and "National Ferries" join their services through land & sea; Launch Muscat Shannah - Masirah Route on next Friday - Tuesday, 17 April 2018

In pursuance of service integration, and as a culmination of efforts to develop public transport services within the Sultanate’s logistics sector, Oman National Transport Company "Mwasalat", in coordination and cooperation with the National   Ferries Company (NFC), will launch, for a second time, a new joint route connecting land with   the sea, as of next Friday, 20 April 2018.


The new route is named "Muscat-Shannah-Masirah" and uses "Mwasalat" buses through the land, and NFC’s ferry to Masirah Island in a daily round trip throughout the week. The new route provides passengers with the flexibility to start or end the journey in other cities of the Sultanate without incurring additional costs or using other means of transportation.

 

The route will start from Al-Athaiba station, through Muscat International Airport, then Al Sahwa Tower, to Samad Ash Shan and then to Sinaw, with the bus journey ending at Shannah harbour.  Thereafter, passengers will board the ferry to Masirah Island. However, the return trip will be on the same route, on reverse direction, beginning this time the journey from Masirah Island on the ferry trip and concluding at the starting point at Al-Athaiba station in Muscat Governorate.

 

 

In order to facilitate benefiting from the two companies’ new joint service, passengers can buy or book tickets through the customer service center or from the various offices of the two companies or while on the bus.
 
Mwasalat and National Ferries launched their joint services for the first time, through land and sea, via the Muscat-Shinas-Khasab route in August 2017.

 

 

 



NFC Achieves 12% Transport Volume Growth in First Quarter - Monday, 16 April 2018

National Ferries Company’s (NFC) latest statistical bulletin revealed 12% increase in transported passenger and vehicles, and 7% increase in cargo, on board ferries by the end of the First Quarter of 2018 compared to the same period of last year.


According to the statistical bulletin, the company transported 61,155 passengers within the first three months of the current year compared to 54,544 during the same period last year, i.e. an increase by 12%.

Total number of vehicles transported on board the ferries, during the first quarter of the current year, increased by 12% to 15,750 vehicles, compared to 14,027 during the same period in 2017.

 

Additionally, the company transported 2,677 tons of goods, during the first quarter, registering an increase of 7%, compared to 2,512 tons in 2017.

 

 

Over 100,000 use Oman's NFC fleet in six months - Monday, 09 July 2018

The National Ferries Company (NFC) registered a rise of 7.5 per cent in the number of passengers in the first half of the year to 116,729 from 108,628 in the same period last year.


According to statistics released by the NFC, the number of vehicles transported rose by 6 per cent, with 29,749 vehicles being shipped, compared to 27,976 during the same period last year.

 

The shipment of goods and equipment rose 19 per cent with total freight tonnage of 5,951 compared to 5,007 during the same period last year.

Above 240K Passengers, 62K Vehicles on NFC Board in 2017

 

The statistical bulletin issued by the National Ferries Company (NFC) indicated that the company carried last year 240,700 passengers, an increase of 9% compared to 220,859 passengers in 2016.

 

The statistics showed that 62,014 vehicles were carried during the same period compared to 54,078 vehicles in 2016,

 a growth of 15 percent. The cargo volume on the ferry fleet increased by 93 percent to 29,308 tons from 15,179 tons in 2016.

 

The statistics also indicated that the index of the dates of the departures (Discipline Index) in 2017 achieved 92.5 percent and the reliability of the provided service stood at 94.18 percent.

 

The 2017 annual statistics show that the number of passengers in the second half of 2017 rose to 132,072 passengers, accounting for 55 percent of the total number of passengers in 2017 and 34,038 vehicles, comprising 55 percent.

 

The statistical bulletin issued by NFC reported that the Shannah-Masirah line maintained its position as the most used line. The line carried 184,417 passengers, constituting 77% of the total number of passengers, with 51 percent occupation rate, and carrying 56,299 vehicles, constituting 66 percent.

 

 

The company's market shares on Shannah-Masirah line reached 34 percent of the passengers and 38 percent of the vehicles. The two ferries (Shannah and Jawahrat Masirah) carried out 2,466 journeys in 2017 compared to 6,525 journeys carried out by the 11 ferries owned by citizens.

National Ferries Company playing key role in Sultanate’s development - Sunday, 19 November 2017

 

The ferry services provided by the National Ferries Company (NFC) today cover eight local ports through 69 journeys per week, in addition to providing access to a few regional ports.

The company's latest statistics issued at the end of October 2017 have indicated an increase in both the number of passengers and vehicles transported on the ferry fleet. The number of passengers transported by the end of October this year was 198,622 passengers, compared to 183,354 in the same period last year, recording an increase of 8 per cent.

The number of vehicles shipped on ferries by the end of October reached 50,916 vehicles, compared to 44.431 in the same period last year, a rise of 15 per cent. In addition to this, it shipped more than 27,000 tonnes of equipment and heavy goods.
The company has an advanced fleet of seven ferries of various models and functions to suit the requirements of the various regions to transport passengers, vehicles and light cargo, besides the landing ship (Halaniyat) that provides transport services for equipment and heavy vehicles, as well as livestock.

 

The company's efforts since the start of its operations have not only enhanced the maritime transport system, but have also helped Omanise various senior positions by recruiting Omani youth to work with the ferry crew and provide new job opportunities in the market. Today, Omani youth occupy the highest maritime positions as pilots of the latest fleet of fast ferries.

The efforts made by NFC demonstrates its key role in the overall development of the Sultanate. The company is one of the products of the renaissance in the developmental and economic sector of the country and is witness to the progress enjoyed by the Sultanate under the glorious reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The company has contributed to the economic and social development in the Sultanate by providing suitable and convenient means of transport for its citizens and residents while enhancing tourism and commercial activity through the transport of individuals, vehicles and goods, in addition to contributing to the benefits for investors by reducing the cost of transporting inputs in the construction sector in the Governorate of Musandam and Masairah Island, as well as increasing the movement of tourists, thus stimulating hotel activity.

NFC Ferries Carry Over 179K Passengers till September 2017 - Sunday, 08 October 2017

 

The number of passengers on board of ferries of the National Ferries Company (NFC) till the third quarter of 2017 witnessed a growth by 8 percent at the level of passengers and 15 percent at the level of vehicles compared to the same period of the last year

   Statistics issued by the NFC said that the number of passengers on board of the ferries stood at 179,210 passengers till the end of September 2017, compared to 165,882 passengers during the same period in 2016.


   At the level of vehicles shipment, the number of the shipped vehicles on board of ferries till the end of September 2017 stood at 45,482 vehicles, compared to 39,667 vehicles during the same period in 2016.
   
   The statistics pointed out that the cargo volume on board of the ferry fleet during the first nine months of the current year reached 7454 tons.
